In the early 1990s, a group of artists associated with a massive industrial building at 55 Ferris Street, in Red Hook, Brooklyn, mounted occasional on-site exhibitions. Frederieke Taylor was the curator of these shows, overseeing open calls for new works. Following the success of this unlikely venue—which enticed Manhattanites, among others, to a largely vacant stretch of Brooklyn waterfront—Taylor and another founder of the group, the artist Joseph Zito, proposed presenting an exhibition of 55 Ferris Street drawings at Wynn Kramarsky’s space. Their idea, which quickly gained his support, led to this show of works by twenty-nine artists, several of whom already had drawings represented in the collection.
