This survey of Agnes Denes’s drawings, 1969 to 1994, included depictions of Pascal’s triangle and vertiginous views of pyramids, as well as works from the “Map Projections” series, in which she visualized the earth in various trigonometric forms and as theoretical shapes of the universe. Versed in science, mathematics, and philosophy, Denes transforms these interrelated areas of human inquiry into delicate, meticulously rendered works on paper. Drawings in the exhibition were accompanied by the artist’s writings, which also figure prominently in her ambitious environmental art practice.
